Can someone clear this up?

If a warden says "Follow my marker" does that mean that we can follow all the markers or not?

Because "follow" says that you follow the object called "marker". But the warden always says "I did not say follow my markers". This always confuses me, can someone clear this up?

When you place a marker, it is not the same marker as the first.

There is only ever the one marker on the ground at once and it is the same marker every time. If the order is "go to my marker" you must follow that order until a new order regarding location is given regardless of whether the warden moves the same marker or not.

Whether it is lost in translation, or you're just stupid, referring to an object is different to referring to all of its kind. For example, stating "eat my apple," while holding an apple would indicate you can eat said Apple. However, if the person were to then retrieve another Apple, after handing the first one over, you were not given permission to eat this second Apple, as it was not referred to in the initial discourse.

However, if the person were to say "eat my appleS," then you would not only be given free rein to eat the apple he is holding, but any others he retrieves, as they are of the same classification as the first Apple.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a grammar lesson, but this little trick is justified and completely legitimate. My advice is to either pay closer attention, or stop being salty you got tricked.
